PROXY™ Clones

Helix Stadium Native supports the use of all Clone files created with Helix Stadium family hardware. The Line 6® PROXY™ Cloning feature, introduced on Helix Stadium devices with firmware version 1.3, accurately captures a “clone” of any physical amplifier, preamp, amp + speaker cab combination, or distortion pedal. Helix Stadium presets that include Clone blocks are also supported by Helix Stadium Native.

Clone files can be exported from the Helix Stadium hardware using the free Helix Stadium application. You can also obtain clones free from the CustomTone.com website (see below) and from several online vendors. Clone files need to be added to the Helix Stadium Native Clones folder for use in the plugin, as described in the following sections. Once added to your presets, Clones can be edited and used much like Amp and Effect models.

Using PROXY Clone Files in Helix Stadium Native

You’ll first need to obtain Clone files and add them to the Helix Stadium Native - Clones folder. By default, this folder is at Documents > Line 6 > Helix Stadium Plugin > Clones, but you can change this to a different folder via the plugin’s Settings. Add Clone files by using the Finder (macOS) or File Explorer (Windows®) application and either drag or copy/paste the desired PROXY “.clone” files into this designated Clones folder.* Clone files can then be accessed in the Model Browser by following the steps below.

Note: If you load a preset that includes a Clone block, but the referenced Clone file is not currently included in the Helix Stadium Native plugin’s Clones folder, the Clone block will display “Unresolved” in its Clone File Selector Unresolved Clone.png . You’ll need to add the reference Clone file to the plugin’s Clones folder, click the “Unresolved” Clone File Selector, and select the Clone to load it (or, optionally, select a different Clone for the preset).

*Tip: Using the Finder or File Explorer app, you can also optionally create your own custom sub-folders within the designated Clones folder, then move or copy your clone files to manage them.

Note that when using the Finder or File Explorer apps, making copies of files can append “2” or “copy” to the end of the filename, after the “.clone” file extension (e.g., “MyFuzz.clone copy”). File names must not include any text after the “.clone” file extension, or they will not be listed within Helix Stadium Native’s Clone File Browser window.

  1. Select the desired Category (Amp, Preamp, or Distortion) in the left column of the Model Browser, then select the Clone subcategory, as shown below.

  • The Amp category includes two clone types: Amp Clone (the direct Amp output signal, without a speaker cab) and Amp+Cab Clone (an amp through a speaker cabinet, captured with a mic). Select either the Amp Clone or Amp+Cab Clone type in the browser, as shown above.

    • For an Amp clone, you’ll most likely want to manually add a Cab block following it in the Signal Flow. Note that, unlike adding an Amp model to your presets, a Cab block is not automatically added or linked to an Amp Clone block—see Cab Blocks and Cab IRs.

  • The Preamp category includes Preamp clones. These clone types are captured either from a standalone preamp (such as a mic, console, or pedal) or from the preamp stage of a guitar or bass amplifier. Select the Preamp Clone in the browser, as shown above.

  • The Distortion category includes Distortion clones. These clone types are captured from overdrive, boost, distortion, or fuzz effect pedals. Select the Distortion Clone in the browser, as shown above

Tip: Select a loaded clone file and click its Focus View button Focus View Button at the top of the Edit Panel to view all metadata added by the clone file's creator, as shown below. This can provide details about the cloned device and its settings (if added by its creator). Also, see the Focus View page for details.

  1. Click on the clone’s <EMPTY> file selector box at the top of the Edit Panel, then select a clone file from its list. The list automatically filters the files within your Clones folder to show only the selected type (Amp, Amp+Cab, Preamp, or Distortion).

    • Optionally enter text in the Search field at the top of the Clone File list to find specific Clones. (Note that the same File List window layout and controls are also used for Cab IR File selection and the Preset Browser.)

    • To easily go to the source .clone file, select a clone in the list and click the Show in Finder (macOS) or Open in File Explorer (Windows) button at the bottom right of the window.

Note: Up to two Clone, Amp, or Preamp blocks in any combination can be added to a path (and up to four Clone/Amp/Preamp blocks max per preset). Optionally, you can set Settings > Hardware Compatibility Mode to “Off” to remove this limit (but note that the preset will not be compatible with Helix Stadium devices).

The Hardware Compatibility Off option is not available in the Helix Stadium Native Intro version.

  1. Select a Clone in the list, and its parameters are displayed in the Edit Panel. All clone types offer the same set of parameters. See Clone Parameters below for descriptions.

  1. Your selected clone is added as a block to your preset’s signal flow. The block can be moved and managed much like other Amp and Effect blocks. Right-click on a clone block to open its Action menu for several options:

  • Bypass: Toggles block bypass.

  • Automation menu: Select a source controller to automate the block’s bypass. See the Automation/Controller Panel for details.

  • Assign MIDI: Select a MIDI CC to remotely control the block’s bypass.

  • Snapshots Set Bypass switch: Enable (set it to its right position, the default) to allow the clone block’s bypass state to be controlled by Snapshots. Disable the block’s bypass switch so it is not affected by Snapshot changes. See Working with Snapshots.

  • Copy/Paste Block: Copy the block and its loaded clone file and settings, and paste into another path location in the current or other preset.

  • Clear/Clear All Blocks: Remove the block or all of the preset’s blocks from the preset.

  • User Default/Factory Default: Select User Default for the current settings to always be loaded as the clone’s default settings on future uses. Select Factory Default to reset back to the original factory default settings. See Creating User Default Settings.

  • Add to Favorites: Create a “Favorite” of the clone block, its clone file, bypass state, and all settings. Once created, your Favorites are available in the Model Browser’s Favorites category. See Favorites.

  1. To remove a Clone File from the Clone Block: Click the Clear button at the right of the Clone File Selector to return to the “<EMPTY>” state, as shown below. Click the Clone File selector again if you wish to select a different Clone.

Clone Parameters

Once a Clone file is selected for a Clone block, its parameters are displayed in the Edit Panel. All Clone types offer the same set of parameters, with all set “flat” as the initial default, as described below.

Description

Pre Gain

Adjusts the amount of gain fed into the clone. Reduce the level for cleaner tones, or increase to drive the amp/preamp/distortion clone for increased saturation and distortion.

Low Cut

A High Pass Filter to reduce the level of all frequencies below the selected cutoff value.

Low

Mid

High

Adjusts the bass, midrange, and treble, respectively.

High Cut

A Low Pass Filter to reduce the level of all frequencies above the selected cutoff value.

Post Gain

Adjusts the output level. Use this to adjust the clone's overall level without affecting its tone.
